Super Chocolate Birthday Cake

The cake was an adventure unto itself. Helaman wanted chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and it had to be round. Omar didn’t know the round part and had already greased and floured the rectangle cake pan. So, we had to start over.

Well, being so far away from the source of all baking borrowing (my mom) we didn’t have 2 round cake pans. As it turns out, we didn’t even have 1 round cake pan, only one deep dish pie pan that looks like a cake pan. When I went to the store to buy to round cake pans, there was only one. The day was getting later and later, so I gave up and bought disposable round cake pans and hurried home.

Then we didn’t have quite enough powdered sugar, which Omar didn’t discover until he already had the rest of the frosting simmering (he makes this killer fudgy sour cream frosting) so I didn’t have time to get to the store to buy another box. Off I was to the neighbors to buy a cup of (powdered) sugar. It felt to cliche!

And let me tell you, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, is A LOT of chocolate.
