Parade of 1000 Flags

Parade of 1000 Flags

This Saturday, Ridgecrest held a parade of 1000 flags to commemorate September 11. It was pretty moving to see all those flags go by, 100 rows of 10 flags carried by the community. There were scouts, and church groups and people pushing wheel chairs, and firefighters and police. It was really cool.

After the parade there was a little program in the Freedom Park where all the flags were then posted on stakes throughout the park. They will stay there until September 11 when there will be a candlelight vigil at dusk.

There were Navy Sailors in the parade, too, which I thought was really cool. When I was telling Helaman about them he said, “Just like in my Helaman movie.” (i.e. the srippling warriors)

It was really hot, this was our first extended adventure in the Ridgecrest sun, so we didn’t make it for the whole program. But it was really cool.
